| Li Kuei-hsien |
“Walking the Path of Poetry with You ―A Tribute to Teacher Kuei-shien”
From sprinting like a leopard
To relying on an umbrella and a cane
You have always been the mountain I admire
The rainbow clouds at the ends of the earth rush to spread the news
Gathering around the literary peak of Formosa
You tell the world
That clouds are the extension of love*
You leave your name for the world to murmur
Time and again, I accompanied you to be imprisoned in economy class
crossing volcanoes, deserts, and oceans
To fly to the other side of the globe
Witnessing you open the doors and windows of world literature with your mighty hands
Allowing the island of Taiwan to see the vastness and grandeur
You have left Formosa’s footprints on the international path of poetry
You have nurtured the trees, forests, and mountains of poetry with your blood and sweat
The blossoms of poetry have spread across continents
The fruits of poetry have reached every nation
Granting followers endless strength to move forward
Your poetry and dreams
Are an immortal legacy left to the world
Like the stars and the sun
Like Neruda and Vallejo

*A line from Lee Kuei-hsien's poem“Scarf”
Lights and Towers ―A Tribute to Teacher Lee Kuei-shien's “Lighthouse Confession”
The procession heading toward the lighthouse
Is it a pilgrimage to the tower or to the light?
Those making pilgrimage to the tower
Simply seek to capture a historical site
Those making pilgrimage to the light
Possess the heart of a moth
The light shines at the ends of the earth and the corners of the sea
Guiding both those who pilgrimage to the light and those who pilgrimage to the tower
toward a direction.
I am one making pilgrimage to the light
Constantly borrowing your light in the cosmic labyrinth
Now you have transformed from a single light
into a northern star
Under the sky of poetry
I hope you will continue to guide the way
